Kitimat City Council was giving out awards on Monday, December 21st. The High School Girls Curling Team were the Provincial Champs from 2014 to 2015 and were recognised in Kitimat Council.

“I’d like to introduce my Curling team from last year, who went [6] and 1, won [6], lost 1,” said Laurel deGoeij, the teams coach.

The teams skip, Taylor Reese – Hanson was unable to attend but accepting her award on her behalf was her mother, Susie Resse – Hansen.

deGoeij told Council Taylor Reese – Hanson was curling in the University of Alberta Curling team trying to make it into the Canadian Juniors.

The other curlers were Emma Baker – Lead, Leah Anthony – 2nd, Micaela Stevenson – 3rd, Jordyn Zanella – 5th

“I am really proud of these girls, they showed fantastic sportsmanship,” said deGoeij.

“Congratulations to you all,” said Mayor Phil Germuth. “That is a great achievement for Kitimat.”

Each of the young women were presented a plaque.

Myself and my son Kalen who is Taylor Reece Hanson Brother spent the weekend traveling to Creston BC to watch these lovely Ladies. They were an amazing team to watch.
Congrats Ladies and thanks for a great weekend of memories...
