Kitimat Food Bank
Christmas is just around the corner and this week is “hamper week” when all the food is sorted ready for packing, gifts are sorted in categories and wrapped by the many busy “elves” who volunteer their time to help out. Hampers will be delivered on Saturday, December 19th and it is important for those receiving hampers that there is a responsible teen or adult at home to sign for the hamper. Hampers not signed for will be returned to the Food Bank and can be picked up the following Tuesday, December 22nd. Drivers with vehicles are asked to be at the Catholic Church hall at 9:30 on the morning of December 19th and deliveries will begin at 10:00 a.m. until completed – the more drivers/vehicles the quicker hampers are delivered.
We would like to thank Gareen Ball, along with her guests and Bell Media for hosting their annual Christmas “Sharing Tree” program in the lower City Centre Mall on Saturday morning. Donations of food, gifts and cash were received. Our thanks once again to the Ferguson family for their general donation of a rocking snail and cradle complete with a baby doll and beautiful bedding. The Kitimat Ladies Dart League and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 250 donated $460 of gift certificates. First Canada “Stuff the Bus” was held at Overwaitea on Saturday and collected $240 in cash, 2 ($10) gift cards as well as a large amount of food, including a number of case lots from Overwaitea. Santa was on hand for photo ops.
Other donations included K Meyer $80; Luso Canadian Association $1000; Luso Canadian Association Ladies Auxiliary $300; Doctors Gottschling & Stevenson $1000; Dr. I. van der Merwe $250 and Community Futures 16/37 $110. This brings our total to approximately $10,500 at this stage.
Thank you to those who have made their generous donations and we know much more will come in over the next two weeks. Thank you to the Trefoil Guild Ladies who made up numerous gift packages for ladies and gentlemen. We would also thank all the media for their terrific support in getting our message out.
