Pacific Variety is having its grand opening in the City Centre Mall today, Friday, November 20th. The former Penny Candy Store has renovated a new location in the Lower Mall and has moved in.

“We expanded our store and we evolved it from the Penny Candy Store to Pacific Variety,” said Bill Franklin, store owner.

They moved so they could expand, have a brighter store and hoped to receive more traffic in their new location. As for the name change:

“You can’t buy penny candy any more. We’ve tried. They don’t even make pennies any more. We got tired of people saying we should change the name of the store to Nickle Candy. We got tired of dealing with suppliers who said: You’re a candy store, why do you want to buy scrapbooking. With the name variety in it, it’s easier to deal with suppliers,” said Franklin.

The reaction to the new store has been positive and people are congratulating the store owners on the move.

Their opening will be accompanied by several draws. Their grand opening takes place the same day as a fashion show which is also going on at the mall today at 7:00 pm.
