Kitimat had a new Fire Chief for Friday, November 6th. Jessica Meyer, age 6, who is attending Kildala Elementary School got to go to the Public Safety Building and be the Fire Chief for the Day.
“We have our school participation, we draw names and whoever is the lucky student who gets the name drawn out of the hat is chosen as our honorary Fire Chief for the Day,” said Fire Chief of Every Other Day, Trent Bossence.
She was given the opportunity to inspect the Fire Department, have lunch with Mayor Phil Germuth, her teacher, principal and the Fire Fighters and sign some documents.
The documents signed by Meyer were letters to the media, thanking them for their coverage of fire prevention week.
“Fire Safety is important to everyone. We are taught about fire safety at school, however, there are many adults who need to be reminded,” read the letter Meyer signed.
“I’d like to congratulate our honorary Chief for the Day, Jessica Meyer,” said Mayor Phil Germuth. “I would like to present Jessica with a Certificate, the Honorary Fire Chief for the Day, and a picture of the day.”
Meyer returned to school, and had the opportunity to share some goodies with her class, and bring them a cake to celebrate her being chosen as Fire Chief for the day.
