REPORTING · 18th September 2015
Walter McFarlane
The Kitimat Fire Department was out on in the afternoon Thursday, September 10th when a vehicle caught fire on the highway.

“Our guys responded. When we arrived on scene, it was a logging truck. The rear tire was on fire,” said Derek Collier, Deputy Chief of Operations..

The trailer was empty, so the Fire Department was able to put it out without further damage to the cab of the logging truck. The fire was out within 45 minutes.

“It’s a good idea to have a fire extinguisher in your vehicle. Fires in vehicles usually start small so it gives you the ability to try and put it out yourself before somebody gets there,” said Collier.

In addition, the Fire Department is reminding people with wood burning stoves that now is the time to clean your chimney and burn only seasoned firewood.
