This Sunday, September 13th, Kitimat Understanding the Environment will be cleaning the riverside. Peter King, K.U.T.E. President was present at Council on Monday, September 8th to invite Council to participate.
“I’m here to invite you to the Kitimat River Cleanup, which will be on Sunday, the 13th at 11:00 [am], until 3:00 [pm]. We have what looks like a good turn out from the community. We have businesses online, we have one of the companies that are involved in the camps that are actually volunteering their time as caterers,” said King.
People are to meet at Riverlodge.
He told Council there are people from many businesses in the community which are coming out, people from Kitamaat Village will be out as well. The invitation was extended to the Chief, Councillors and Hereditary Chiefs as well.
“We would like to invite the Mayor and Council out as well, to give a welcome to the community. This is a yearly event and the river is very important to all of us and the people do a phenomenal job,” said King.
He said people have removed car bodies and found biohazards in the past. He expressed they have estimated 100 people will show up.
Councillor Larry Walker asked for a follow up about how good or bad it was. King agreed to do so. Councillor Edwin Empinado stated he was excited to do this. He said they could have assembled an entire vehicle with the body parts they found in the river.
