REPORTING · 8th September 2015
Walter McFarlane
The Kitimat Museum and Archives hosted a special presentation by Doctor Kees Visser of BC Nature for the Kitimat Valley Naturalists on Friday, September 4th. The topic was Geology.

“I’m going to talk about what geology is and what kind of disciplines we have in geology, all the means. Also, in my background, I work in Mining Geology and oil and gas industry. Although I work there, I’m still an environmentalist and I like to explain to people a little bit about LNG, the Fracking and drilling in the chaff. I also like to talk about rocks and every kind of discipline of geology,” said Visser prior to the presentation.

He stressed that he is not opposed to any kinds of development, coming to Kitimat. However, it all has to be done in a sustainable way.

He hoped people would take home a better understanding of geology, that it is a part of nature and without the geology, there would be no plants or animals, and finally, he hoped people would join the Kitimat Valley Naturalists, which is a part of BC Nature.

“It is important that we know nature and that our future generations know about it,” said Visser.

Prior to his presentation, his Wife, Nieke Visser presented on what BC Nature is about. It is there to provide the naturalist clubs around British Columbia with a unified voice at Government. It also provides the clubs with resources. They help them with projects. They are all volunteers.
