It is August and summer is almost over, which means the diligent District of Kitimat staff is putting the ice on the Tamitik Arena. The rink takes two weeks to get ready.
“We started up the plant on Tuesday, August 4th,” saidShane Kirwin, Arena and Parks Coordinator. “It took a couple of days to get down to temperature to put water on it. Then a few days of building a little bit of ice, putting some paint and some logos in and now it’s just a case of building it up to the correct regulation for Ice Thickness.”
The ice will be ready for Monday, August 17th when the Snow Valley Skating Club will holding their summer camp. Kitimat Minor Hockey will be also be going on the ice the for their summer training.
“It looks rather nice. It’s a work of art almost,” said Kirwin.
