NEWS RELEASE · 8th July 2015
District of Kitimat
Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre

The Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre is scheduled to re-open the week of July 27. The pools have all been cleaned and filled. Pumps and other mechanical equipment have been checked and are operating normally, with one exception. A part needed for the mechanical unit which chlorinates the teach pool is not working. The part has been ordered and is expected to arrive by mid-week. Once installed, the pool will be chlorinated appropriately. Once all pools have been balanced and required standards have been met, water samples will be sent to the Health Department for review. (Water samples take one week for Health Department inspection review).

After approval by the Health Department, staff training will commence for four days to ensure all required guarding skills are up to date.

Wading Pools

The Wading Pools were opened in 1964 and have over the years been repaired to maintain them in operating condition. The wading pools are now 51 years old and are subject to year round exposure to weather elements and the rigors of community use. Upon inspection, the wading pools are facing significant remedial work prior to opening.

Through the process of prioritization municipal workers have been working very hard to return all facilities to normal operation and to provide usual services to the public. The wading pools are scheduled to be repaired during the week of July 20. Staffing requirement and training is currently being reviewed in order to allow for operation.

Radley Park

Radley Park is scheduled to open the week of July 10. The clean-up of the park is nearing completion and the issue of removing winter damaged trees is complete. The contractor hired to build the new washroom facility and sani-dump/lift station has been working on completing the required work for the operation of these new amenities. Park Staff are being trained in preparation for operation and have been busy cleaning and prepping sites and washroom facilities.
