REPORTING · 10th June 2015
The Kinsmen Club of Kitimat will be hosting the Canada Day Parade again this year.
“The parade is going to continue, it is going to happen on July 1st, at noon. We will be doing the regular route,” said Sharole Bell. The theme this year is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Flag.
She stated that due to the labour dispute between Unifor 2300 and the District of Kitimat, it will be the only thing going on this year. Even if the District of Kitimat Ratify the agreement, it is too late to organize other activities. They were given until the 6th of June to organize the food fair.
“The only thing we’re proceeding with is the parade,” said Bell.
According to Martin Gould, head of the Leisure Services Department, if the tentative agreement between the District and the Union is ratified, the District will be working on some form of Canada Day event.
We were also informed there could be another organization trying to put something together for Canada Day. As of publication, we have not been able to talk with them.
To apply for the parade, contact Bell at 250-639-1407 or Christine Dielschneider at 250-632-6193 and they will get you the registration forms.
