REPORTING · 10th June 2015
It was Scholarship Night at Mount Elizabeth Middle and Secondary School on Thursday, June 4th and the Mount Elizabeth Theatre was full of students, parents and members of the community. $55,000 was handed out in Scholarships that night.
“Training and formal education beyond the high school level is not merely something that would be nice to have,, but something that is a necessity for today’s youth. We are grateful that our community recognises the significance of supporting students in pursuit of a higher education. Without this support, many of the recipients tonight would not be able to have this opportunity or one that is better experienced,” said Katherine Johnson, Chairperson for the Kitimat Scholarship Association. She thanked all the people who contributed money for the scholarships.
Scholarships were given out by Rio Tinto Alcan, the District of Kitimat, Unifor 2300, Enbridge Northern Gateway and many more. One of the students, Dylan Fossl, got a special surprise, a five year scholarship to the University of Northern British Columbia.
