REPORTING · 23rd April 2015

It is starting to look a lot like Spring time in Kitimat and children are certainly back on their bicycles. On Friday, April 10th, Kildala Elementary School hosted a bike rodeo for their students, which was organized the RCMP.

“All the kids are learning new skills and rules of bike safety,” said Principal, Janell Hittel. “[Bike safety is important for kids] so they don’t get hurt when they are out riding.”

She told us there were more and more bikes showing up at the school in the bike racks.

Grade 5 and 6 Students were given an opportunity to take on a leadership role as they were instructing the younger children at several of the stations.

“[We want children to take away from this] that they need to ride safely around the town, they need to wear their helmets and that they are aware of the dangers on the road,” said Hittel.

Despite the rain the day, there was a good turnout. At the end of the rodeo, the remaining youth took a race around the track.
