The students of Nechako Elementary School are preparing a performance of the Jungle Book for Wednesday, April 22nd. They will be doing two shows at Mount Elizabeth Theatre, one at 1:30 and one at 7:00 in the evening.
“It’s my last show before I retire, so I wanted to do it at the theatre. It makes it a little more special,” Director and Teacher, Pam Vollrath. “We’re trying to raise money to replace the very decrepit curtains at the stage at Nechako. Donations are welcome for that.”
Vollrath explained she has taught for 35 years and in this time, she has organized a number of theatrical performances by the students. She directed this one around seven years ago and decided the final play would be her favourite. The students have managed to pull the play together within four weeks.
The main roles are taken from all the grades. Mowgli is palyed by Sara Garcia, Baloo the Bear is Maxime Turcotte, Bagheera is played by Alivia Moretti and Sheere Khan is played by Alivia Dillon.
The entire school is involved in the production in some way. Student choirs will be joining in the musical numbers while the Nechako students will be filling in roles in backstage and working in the booth. Vollrath hoped these students will continue in the Tech Club when they reach the high school.
Entrance is by donation. Anyone who donates at least $10 at the evening show will be entered to win a stuffed Baloo or King Louie.

Wonderful to see that after teaching for so long my sister still has the energy and focus to direct one final performance of what she has told me is her favourite show. She deserves to take a rest after her long career doing what she has always loved teaching young children. Go Pam - your loving brother Geoff at home in Sunderland, England
