The Kitimat Multicultural Society held their Annual Potluck Dinner on Saturday, March 7th. The event was well attended and there was a lot of delicious food on the central table in the Luso hall. The Luso Club hosted this year’s event, adding several Portuguese dishes to the festivities.

Raymond Raj, President of the Kitimat Multicultural Society introduced the evening. Anna Cabral, President of General Assembly at the Luso Hall explained the history of the hall, from a smaller building on an adjacent lot to the building where it is now.

Mayor Phil Germuth was also present to say a few words. He stated Kitimat was a marvel of multiculturalism which maintains a diverse mix of cultures and lifestyles.

“During multicultural week, we celebrate our citizen’s rich heritage and we are proud of the respect shown by our residents to all peoples who live and visit our community,” said Germuth.

MLA Robin Austin was also attending to say a few words. “I think that everyone who lives in Kitimat knows we live in a very special place,” said Austin. “We’re lucky to live in a country that brings people from all over the world and has figured out how we all get along.”

Following the dinner, there was dancing, music and a magic show by Edwin Empinado. Next year, the Multicultural Society will be celebrating 40 years.
