REPORTING · 26th February 2015
District of Kitimat
The District of Kitimat employees, represented by Unifor Local 2300, will be in a legal strike position effective Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:55 am. The union’s job action will significantly impact municipal operations starting with the shutdown of Kitimat Ice Arena, Tamitik Arena and Sam Lindsay Memorial Pool.

In line with provincial regulations and standard operating procedures, the District of Kitimat has set processes in place that follow, and in some cases surpass, the provincial regulations. These procedures include a proper shutdown process that protect the facilities, infrastructure and the public.

Unifor 2300 has advised that the union will not walk off the job if negotiations are continuing and progress is being made. However, enough time must be allotted to ensure all the work can be accomplished prior to 11:55 am on Saturday February 28, 2015 when Unifor Local 2300 will be in a legal strike position, therefore, shutdown procedures will begin at 1 p.m., February 26, 2015.
I agree!

And I agree with the person who suggested yesterday that supporting the municipal workers was more important than bailing out the golf club (again!)
Too bad it came to this

Sucks that City is shutting down, but time for the City workers who have been taking it in the chops for years to get something more than scraps.
