The election results from Saturday are official. The voter turnout for 2014 was 2820 or 61%. This compares to 55% in 2011 and 56% in 2008.
“As Chief election officer, I do declare that Phil Germuth, who received the highest number of valid votes for Mayor has been elected,” said Warren Waycheshen on Tuesday, November 18th. “And officially, as Chief Election Officer, in descending order for the valid votes for the office of Councillor, Rob Goffinet, Edwin Empinado, Mario Feldhoff, Mary Murphy, Clair Rattee and Larry Walker have all been elected.”
For Mayor, there were 12 rejected ballots, 1 spoilt ballot and unaccounted for. For Council, there were 22 rejected ballots, 0 spoilt ballots and 2 uncounted for. The rejected ballots did not have any markings on it. A few for Mayor had two votes recorded. There were no objections from the scrutinizers.
One extra vote for Joanne Monaghan turned up in the wrong ballot box Saturday night, increasing her total.
There were 387 new registered voters in Kitimat.
