Last week, on October 21st, Kitimat M Star Hotel at the mall cut the ribbon to signify the start of the construction of their building. Mayor Joanne Monaghan was present to do the honours.

“We would like to thank you for taking the step of making this hotel in our community,” said Monaghan. She wished them a long standing line of endeavours.

“It will be two floors built above a retail space. The main floor will house a restaurant and the hotel lobby,” Jerry Minni, who owns the City Centre Mall. The restaurant will be a Town Pantry and an Alexander’s Lounge.

The hotel is planned to have 42 rooms. Once it is operational around the end of 2015, there will be upgrades to the City Centre Mall. At the moment, they are working to reinforce the columns in the downstairs area below the hotel.

“For us, this is phase one in the development. We’re going to carry what’s happening here through to the front of the mall and then carry into the mall. We’re going to upgrade the mall in the process. The Hotel’s phase one, when it’s up and operational, we’ll carry on,” said Minni.
