Kitimat Understanding the Environment held their annual river clean up on Sunday, September 28th. Close to 100 people on 12 teams came out to clean the river from Cablecar to the LNG Canada.
“The goal is to clean the riverbanks and have everything really nice for the fish when they decide they want to come up here and spawn,” said Barb Hall, President of K.U.T.E.
Participants were given prizes for participating. Food was cooked by the Students from High School who will be taking a trip on Spring Break.
“I am stunned at how many people came out. I am thrilled,” said Hall.
At Council on Monday, October 5th, during his Councillor Report, Councillor Edwin Empinado thanked the organizers. He stated they found enough car parts to reassemble an old car.
“We found a body, we found spare parts. We could have assembled one. Just urging the community to dump things in its proper place. We have the dump site and we have K.U.T.E. for recycling,” said Empinado.
The local army cadets were present to help out
