REPORTING · 6th October 2014
Around the world, unionized workers from 20 countries where Rio Tinto operates will be rallying for a better Rio Tinto Alcan on Tuesday, October 7th. In Kitimat, Unifor 2301 will be holding a rally at Centennial Park at 4:30.
“We are demanding respect for our unions and for worker’s rights, healthy and safe workplaces, and that Rio Tinto stop undermining our jobs through the use of precarious labour. Precarious Labour includes temporary, casual and contracted out work that is often low wage, low benefit and insecure,” read a flyer which was handed out by Unifor 2301 earlier this weekend.
The network of unions include countries from all over the world. In Kitimat, Unifor National Officers will be flying in from Toronto and Vancouver to speak about the global and national scene. There will be union workers providing a perspective on Rio Tinto.
