REPORTING · 25th September 2014
There is a Seniors Symposium coming up on the first weekend of October, taking place October 3rd and 4th. The Deadline to sign up is the 26th of September so there is not much time left.
“It’s an opportunity for seniors in our community and outside our community to come to Kitimat and learn what’s in their community for support, whether it’s learning about nutrition or learning about what housing options there are,” said Shaun O’Neill.
One part of the Symposium is a health and wellness fair which is to provide information to seniors as well as three break out sessions. The Symposium will have some information which pertains to Kitimat, there are opportunities to learn more about independent living, supported living and even extended care at the hospital. There are programs on Hospice, dealing with Alzheimer’s and further topics relating to that generation.
In addition, there are two doctors from Victoria who specialize in working with seniors who are going to a humorous presentation on this topic. The Doctors are known as the Wise Quacks and they are regular guests on CBC.
You can register at Riverlodge and the Snowflake Seniors Centre. The registration fee is $35 per person or $55 for a couple.
