The 27th Annual Fish Derby took place over the Labour Day weekend. Tickets went to 426 adults and 109 youth. There were about 70 fish weighed in. On Sunday, the derby came to a close at the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce.
“Even with all the rain, everyone had an awesome time. We did have to set up a lot of tents,” said Trish Parsons, Chamber Manager. Parsons thanked everyone who helped make this year’s fishing derby a success.
There was music, games for the children and much more going on at the Chamber before the grand prizes were announced. The winners were as follows:
Overall Largest Coho ($1000.00) - Chad Stevenson - 13 lbs 12 7/8 oz
Junior Largest Coho - Brendan Gasper - 13 lbs 7 1/4 oz
Women's Largest Coho - Luminda Mendoza - 12 lbs 4 3/8 oz
Men's Largest Coho - Chad Stevenson - 13 lbs 12 7/8 oz
In addition, there were many other prizes given out throughout the derby.
Mayor Joanne Monaghan was present to help hand out the prizes. She thanked everyone who made the event a success. “It’s wonderful to have this event within our community,” said Monaghan.
