The Kitimat Chamber of Commerce hosted the 1st Annual Man’s Best Friend Show and Shine on August 22nd. The event was organized by Ian Pereira and Shaun Barbosa with help from Jodi Leduk.
“It was phenomenal, we had an awesome turnout,” said Chamber Manager Trish Parsons. “Their goal was to have 15 bikes registered. There were actually 44 bikes registered for the show. There were another 20 bikes which came by. They didn’t register their bikes.”
There were riders from Terrace, Prince Rupert and Smithers who came down to the Show and Shine. Harley Davidson and Eyecandy, both from Smithers were present. The Best in Show was Darrell Brooks with an Eyecandy Custom Build. The runners up were Wayne Hatto, Noah Lopes and Jeff Kaines.
The Show and Shine was a fundraiser to raise funds for the Kitimat Humane Society. They collected many donations of money, food and other pet supplies. Their goal was to reach $5000 and Parson’s was confident when they add up all the donations of services, food and cash, they will meet this total.
“It was a very good turnout, they ended up with 50 registered bikes and they raised about $3500 cash so far and probably about $400-$500 in food for that day,” said Maryann Ouellet. “We have to thank everybody who’s been involved, everyone who participated and all the businesses that have contributed.”
The Show and Shine is expected to take place again next year with a little help from the shops in Smithers. There were lots of families who came out and the children were playing in the park.
