The 27th Annual Fish Derby is fast approaching. It will take place Labour Day Weekend, August 30th and 31st. Derby tickets are on sale and you do not have to fish to win a prize. There are hundreds of prizes at the Chamber of Commerce.
“The rules haven’t changed from last year. Your fish has to be gutted and gilled. There is no Halibut Category. We’re just doing largest Coho,” said Trish Parsons, Chamber Manager.
The prizes for fishing will be awarded to the largest Coho caught by a youth, caught by a woman, caught by a man and there is a prize for the largest overall Coho caught. The weigh in times will be Saturday from 9 am to 9 pm at the Chamber of Commerce and Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $20 for an adult ticket and $10 for a child ticket. They can be purchased from City Centre Hardware, the Chamber of Commerce or Bradley’s Bait and Tackle.
In addition, the scavenger hunt is once again taking place. There are 10 questions about Kitimat and the answers can be found around the community. The entries have to be in by 4:00 on the 31st. From all the entries, they will be giving out three fishing rods.
The random prize draws will begin at 3:00 at the Chamber from 3-7. Fish Fest will take place on Sunday the 31st. There will be games for the kids, food venders at the Chamber from 3-8. There will be a shuttle bus which runs from Upper City Center to the Chamber of Commerce.
