Kitimat Bear Aware
A Message from the Conservation Officer:
Last night Conservation Officers trapped and euthanized a problem Grizzly cub at Hirsch Creek Campground.
The second year cub had not been seen with a Sow all season and had been responsible for lots of complaints in the areas of Smith St, Teal St and Hirsch Creek Campground.
It had become heavily habituated to eating garbage and desensitized to people. Conservation Officers gave it many weeks to leave town but its behaviour got steadily worse.
Grizzly Cubs normally stay with their mother until the third year and so the cubs chances of survival were already much lower.
People concerned about the storage of garbage, or other bear attractants can report problems to the Conservation Officer Service (1877-952-7277) and/or the District of Kitimat Bylaw Department (632-8900).

I bet he was shot with a 3030 or shot gun slug. Hope I am wrong......
