Justin Trudeau was in Kitimat on Wednesday, August 6th for a meeting with Mayor Joanne Monaghan. The two met for about 45 minutes, from around 4:20 pm to just after 5:00.
“He was very interested in Kitimat because he had seen so much in the papers and heard so much about it come back from being a very, very down and very doomed town to a boom town. He wanted to know what the feeling in town was for LNG, what the feeling was for Enbridge and what the feeling was for the refinery,” said Monaghan.
Monaghan stated they also talked about how the town had coped with the escalation in population. She told him the house prices went up and there were people who needed affordable housing.
“That is something that is finally being looked at now and maybe in the next little bit, we’ll have a solution to that. Then he wanted to know about the camps” said Monaghan.
