Festivals Kitimat plans are almost complete, as we are just a week away from the Canada Day Celebration in Kitimat!
The Canada Day Celebrations starts off with the 6th Annual Memorial Hill Climb on Saturday June 28 starting at 10:00am; rain out day will be on June 29th. Join the crowd to see who will be crowned King or Queen of the Hill 2014.
Start celebrating your Canada Day at the upper City Centre Mall on July 1st from 7:00 – 11:00am by enjoying a pancake breakfast hosted by the Kitimat Humane Society. Don’t forget that on Canada Day Kitimat will be offering free bus services from 10:00am – 6:00pm.
The annual Kinsmen Club of Kitimat Canada Day parade will be leaving from Mountainview Square at noon with plenty of floats, marchers and vehicles decorated for Canada’s birthday. The top three best decorated floats representing the theme of “Christmas in July” will win prizes! Parade forms will be accepted until [Tuesday, June 23rd] at ouroffice in the Meeting Room at Riverlodge or by contacting Christine at 250-632-6193. After the parade, the stage show will begin at Riverlodge from 1:00-4:00pm and 8:00-11:00pm. There will be door prizes, entertainment, and a raffle for the chance to win a trip for two to Vancouver donated by Hawkair! Come out and show your support for local entertainers.
Outside Riverlodge you will find Food and Craft Vendors at our International Food and Craft Fair, but be sure to save some room because the Girl Guides of Canada will be serving Canada Day birthday cake at 2:00pm from the Riverlodge gymnasium. There is a lot for the family to enjoy such as soccer games on the Riverlodge field from 1:00 – 6:30pm or you can bring the kids over to the Kids Fun Zone, hosted by the Kitimat Child Development Centre where there will be exciting activities and free prizes. The zone will be open from 1:30-3:45pm. There will also be helicopter rides from 1:00-7:00pm in baseball field #2 as well as some new events happening at Riverlodge this year; Kitimat’s West Coast Park Dog Show from 2:00-4:00pm, with all proceeds going to the Kitimat Humane Society. Along with a Chamber of Horrors Haunted House at the Kitimat Youth Centre from 6:00-10:00pm with partial proceeds going back to the Youth Centre, entry is $2.00.
Over at Tamitik Arena, make sure you check out the 11th Annual Show & Shine Car Show from 1:00-4:00pm, $2 per person; contact Jane Cummings for more information at 250-639-5566. Remember to bring your bathing suits to take advantage of the free fun swim from 6:00 – 9:00pm at the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre.
Finally, come back and finish your day off at Riverlodge enjoying a fantastic Fireworks display put on by the Kitimat Fire Department at 11:00pm.
