REPORTING · 17th June 2014
There was a special presentation at the beginning of Council on Monday, June 16th. Councillor Lynn Christiansen from the City of Terrace had come to Kitimat to make a presentation at the 60th Annual Awards Banquet at the TransCanada Yellow Head Association held in Valemont on May 16th.
The associations awarded Mayor Joanne Monaghan the Tete Jaune Award. She was not in attendance so Christiansen brought the award to Council. “We’re pleased to have the opportunity to recognize your accomplishments on behalf of the TransCanada Yellow Head Association and encourage you to continue your pursuit of excellence through determination and success,” said Christiansen
The award reads:
“Presented to Joanne Monaghan, Who, as a Past President, Director and supporter since 1986 and through her work, has made a significant contribution to the achievement of the associations goals and objectives.”
Monaghan received the award and thanked Christiansen for it. She said during the time she was president, Yellowhead highway 16 became a TransCanada Highway. She was proud it still is.
“I was the first woman president of the Yellow Head Association,” said Monaghan. “A lot of the people, a lot of the fellows who were on the board at that time didn’t even think women drove cars.”
