NEWS RELEASE · 22nd May 2014
School District 82
The British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) has announced that its members will be withdrawing their services during rotating strikes throughout the province from Monday, May 26 to Thursday, May 29, 2014 inclusive. Each school district will be affected on one day.

As a result, teachers will not be reporting for duty to Coast Mountains School District on Monday, May 26, 2014. School buses will not be running on May 26 and we are requesting that parents do not send their children to school on this day. Schools will not have adequate levels of supervision on May 26 to ensure student safety.

All schools in the province will be open on Friday, May 30; however, please note that May 30 in Coast Mountains School District is a Professional Development Day and students will not be in attendance. While school facilities will remain open under the supervision of school district staff, we will be unable to provide students with instruction during this period of job action. Exceptions to this are programs not staffed by BCTF employees, which includes Kitimat Child Care.

It is the sincere hope of the Board of Education that this dispute will be concluded quickly and that normal school operations will resume as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will do our utmost to keep you informed of any new developments in a timely manner over the next week.

For our most recent and regular media updates for this job action, please refer to the local radio station in your community and the school district website at
I just don't get it....

If the teachers strike on May 26 why not just cancel the "Prof. day on May 30 and get them back teaching the kids. This way they do not loose a day of schooling and are better prepared to hopefully graduate to the next grade??
