Kitimat Council wants to get the word out concerning an open house for The Marine Planning Partnership for the North Pacific Coast is asking for input on their Draft Marine Plan tonight, Tuesday, May 13th tonight at Kitimat Valley Institute. An open house will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 and there will be a presentation and questions from 6:30 to 8 pm.
Mayor Joanne Monaghan explained that the purpose of this plan is to protect species and habitat on the North Coast. “Many of the identified areas are well used by our local charters, our locals and tourists. This will be over and above the department of fisheries,” said Monaghan.
Comment can be received until June 3rd.
Councillor Mario Feldhoff encouraged the public to attend the meeting because if they miss it, Kitimat could end up with something it does not want. Council will attend and report back to the public about what they have learned.
