REPORTING · 7th May 2014

Dance Kitimat put on a spectacular performance on Saturday and Sunday, May 4th and 5th. Dreams Past, their year end performance was a compilation of different dances and ideas, choreographed by their dance instructor, Monica Kapelar and several of the students.

Kapelar travels from Smithers twice a month to teach dance to the students. The students have been working on this since September and about 60 dancers were on the stage. Kapelar told us the music inspires the dances. It helps her gets an idea of what she wants to create.

The dances were tied together by Haley Bantle, who plays a young woman going through her Grandmothers scrapbooks and included a variety of themes, music and performances.

“There’s lots of discipline and dedication. It’s a lot of work, but I would say with their discipline, it’s actually been easy,” said Kapelar.

She wanted to thank all the people who help out. Special thanks went to Anna-Marie Carstens and Hueylin Guizzo.
