REPORTING · 7th May 2014
Staff Sergeant Phil Harrison gave his monthly policing report for March on Monday, April 22nd. He introduced Constable Tanner Fowler, who had been in Kitimat for 2 months, to the Council.
“We still haven’t had our Sergeant arrive yet, he’ll be arriving May 20th,” said Harrison.
The RCMP had 334 calls for March, which was up slightly. There were two calls for sexual assaults brining the yearly total to four. There were 20 common assaults bringing the total to 54. He explained only 6 of the assaults were real, the others were two people who agreed to fight and it was called in by a witness.
There were four cases of Criminal Harassment, four break and enters, 14 calls of mischief to property, 15 incidences of causing a disturbance, marijuana possession charges have tripled bringing the total to nine. There were three charges of trafficking. There were 18 false alarms.
“Calls are rising again, we had 100 some-odd complaints this past month then we had the month before. It is that time of year when people are starting to get out and move around again. I expect that we will have some more,” said Harrison.
The RCMP would like to remind residents to lock their front doors while they are working in the back yard. It eliminates having ‘bad guys’ go through the house while the occupant is working in the back yard.
