COMMENTARY · 29th April 2014
Yvonne Carlstrom
One of the things we noticed when we came to Kitimat four years ago was how clean the community was kept. We have certainly seen that deteriorate with the increase in activity. I am baffled as to why council has voted down a "cover your load" bylaw. Alot of the garbage between town and CableCar comes from uncovered loads. Personally, I have had to dodge a dryer drum falling off a truck, a recliner chair, and a half sheet of plywood. This flying debris hazard is a big concern, not to mention having to go around all kinds of stuff that falls onto the driving lanes that I have to maneuver around. I really wish council would reconsider before someone gets hurt. Perhaps council should go out with garbage bag in hand along that stretch of highway to clean up. Maybe then the impact will be realized. Just saying....
Unsightly garbage along the roadside

Don't these people that loose their garbage on the way to dump....see their mattress ? Kids toys ? boards ? etc. on their way back home ???
Pure laziness ! Not a very good impression coming into our Beautiful Garden City...time to move the dump !

On my way to the dump a few days ago a fair amount of loose trash was flying off a trailer pulled by a truck in front of me, once I had to cross the centre lane to avoid a board with nails. I have never seen any of these people stop to pick up their trash and the amount along the roadside is amazing. How did council vote the bylaw down.
