REPORTING · 24th April 2014
Walter McFarlane

The workers at Supervalu were happy at 11:30 am today to find out their store is going to remain open. We are currently waiting to hear back from Loblaw.

We’ve been told Supervalu has been granted a three month extension on their lease so Loblaw and the owner of the building can come to an agreement which is fair to them. We’ve been told Loblaw is looking for a ten year lease.

We'll update this story as we hear more.

First off thank you to all the people who have been so good to us BUT - I cannot for the life of me understand what is happening in Kitimat. The Super-Valu - for example - is a store that many people shop at all the time and some very often - our other choice of store may be bigger but it is not the same as the Super-Valu and one thing that is great at the Super-Valu is the fact that we do know who the manager is - he actually speaks to us - the staff is friendly in both stores but Loblaws should know just how really angry many people will be if they are not able to get a lease on that building. It seems everybody thinks Kitimat is a boom town and all want in on the 'gravy' - ask the Shopper's who owns the lease and why they don't go about fixing the front door for wheel chairs and handicapped people to enter. Anyway - I don't know if I'm making much sense but many of us do hope that Loblaws learns we do care here in Kitimat!
