District of Kitimat

On Saturday, April 12 at approximately 5:32 am, the Kitimat Fire Department received a call from dispatch reporting a residential structure fire at 60 Kechika St. Crews responded with one engine, one ladder truck, two Chief Officers, eight firefighters and an ambulance.

Upon arrival on scene, the single storey, wood frame residence was fully involved. All residents evacuated safely. The fire was brought under control and confined, but the structure sustained major damage.

Later Saturday morning, at approximately 6:05 am, dispatch reported a second structure fire at 4 Bayer. Some of the crews left the earlier fire and responded with one engine, one ladder truck, two Chief Officers and five firefighters.

When they arrived, crews found a vehicle on fire in the garage of the two-storey, wood frame home. All residents made it out safely. Damage from this fire was confined to the garage and living quarters directly above.

Both fires are currently under investigation by the RCMP.
