REPORTING · 10th April 2014
Walter McFarlane
The Cultural Warming Basketball Tournament took place in Kitamaat Village and in Kitimat over the weekend of April 4th, 5th and 6th. Twelve menís teams and eight ladies teams battled it out for large cash prizes in the recreation centre in the Village and at Mount Elizabeth Secondary School in Kitimat.

ďIt was awesome, it was awesome teams. The prize money attracts the teams from far away, itís not just the local teams. Its teams from Vancouver, we had Fort Saint James Menís team, Vanderhoof Ladies Team and so on,Ē said Brent Robinson.

The furthest team was from Vancouver. A part of the tournament was to find a way for Kitimat and Kitamaat Village to work together. The rosters were open to anyone, the tournament was neither a native tournament or a white tournament.

In the Ladies Division, the Haisla Senior Ladies took on the Prince Rupert Thunder and won 67 to 45. In the Menís Division, the Vancouver Dusters defeated the Prince Rupert Lights Out 99-81.
