The Community Supper Club held a fundraiser on Saturday, March 1st at Divine Ink. They are raising money for a sustainable soup Kitchen in Kitimat.
“We are here to promote our cause and raise funds for our first soup service,” said Sherry Brady. “The supper club is hoping to take the pressure off of the community.”
She said the goal is to give people in the community hope as there is a lot of hunger and they are trying to ease this. The fundraiser wanted to get people to show their support for the cause.
The reason they are fundraising is because they need money to purchase the food they need to cook hardy meals for the people who need the service. They cannot get government funding until they have established an on-going program and prove who they are.
At the moment, they cannot release much information about the soup kitchen because they are trying to be mindful of the people who need the service the most. There will be an internal release of information to organizations who work with people who need the services the most so they can get it first.
This is not the first attempt at a soup kitchen in Kitimat. Brady told us there was another attempt which operated for one day, three years ago and served 60 people.
“Our success relies on the support of the community. We are here to support the community and we require the communities support to be a success,” said Brady.
Anyone who wants to donate to this program, they are setting up a pay pal on their Facebook page.
