Winterfest 2014 held their kickoff social at Rosarios on Thursday, February 20th. Representatives of AFFNO were there to raise awareness of Winterfest to the diners with a 50/50 draw and by letting them know what events were coming up on Friday and Saturday. Local Guitarist Bill Volrath was there playing for the diners.
“It’s what we call our Kickoff Social. It is an event that we found works really well for us as a kind of a promotional tool to get a festival going in Prince Rupert. We thought we’d try the same thing in Kitimat since it’s been four years since we were last here with the Winter Festival,” said Patrick Witwicki.
On Friday, February 21, there will be a concert at the Luso performed by a group called Barefoot Caravan at 8:00. Entrance is by donation. The event is licensed.
“They play folk, reggae, world, little bit of rock thrown in, they can perform songs in all kinds of different languages. We are a francophone festival so some of the songs will be in French,” said Witwicki.
The Winterfest Brunch is on Saturday, February 22nd, which is a family event. Tickets are available at the Kitimat Public Library and Pyramid Printers. There will be activities for the children. Performing at the Brunch is Jack Cook and Friends. The grand prize is a trip for two from Hawk Air.
