REPORTING · 13th February 2014
Walter McFarlane
Kitimat Fire Fighters were called into the Kildala Neighbourhood on Friday, February 7th to a fire in the Trailer Court across from Riverlodge. The entire force was called out to attend.

“At 21:13, crews responded to a structure fire located at the Trailer Park. Upon arrival, they noted quite a bit of smoke and some flame noted at the structure. Everyone was out, there were no injuries sustained by the public or the occupants or any fire fighters on scene. It was extinguished,” said Deputy Fire Chief, Peter Bizarro.

He told us there was a challenge in putting out this fire. With the freezing cold, the fire fighters had to ensure their lines were running and the water was freezing as it hit the ground.

“Unfortunately, it was a total loss, both trailer and contents. It’s still under investigation,” said Bizarro.

Bizarro expressed early recognition is important when there is a fire. If you recognize the first signs of smoke to calmly warn everyone and vacate while staying out of the smoky areas and call 911.

We have been informed there is a fundraiser for the family who lost their home at Envision Financial on Friday, February 14th.
