REPORTING · 30th January 2014
Walter McFarlane
Nathan Cullen was in Kitimat on Monday, January 20th to hold a workshop so people could better understand their taxes and how to save money.

“We’ve been going around the North and we’ll do some more promotion to make sure people know all the different programs which are available because it’s really complicated and make sure they’re only paying the taxes they are meant to pay,” said Cullen.

He explained his events have not been well attended, however the word did not get out in time and taxes are an item people do not look forward too. He wanted to get the information out to people. The people who have attended have discovered around $1000 they are going to get back this year.

Leota Sommerfeld, Owner and Operator of H&R Block in Kitimat was also present to help out. She expressed prior to the workshop that people do not pay attention to their taxes.

“They just automatically assume that Revenue Canada, if they send them a statement, that Revenue Canada has it right,” said Sommerfeld. “If they want a second opinion on anything, come and talk to us at the office, that’s all free. We don’t charge anybody anything for that. If they have a question, we’ll be more than happy to help people out with it, again no charge.”

If you missed it, there may not be another round before tax season comes. However, everyone in the riding with an address with Cullen’s office is going to receive a mail out. Also a copy will be at http://www.nathancullen.com/.
