Between a Rock and a Soft Place, Mixed Media Work by Emily Christiansen opened at the Kitimat Museum and Archives on Friday, January 3rd. The exhibit runs from the 3rd until February 1st, 2014.
“The exhibit is called: "Between a Rock and a Soft Place" because I feel caught between Kitimat's progression and development while feel at home again after returning after several years of living elsewhere. I enjoy the natural amenities that Kitimat has to offer and it defines me as a person and as an artist. I am concerned that our pristine environment could change for the worse only for the sake of "progress". I want to bring to light these issues to the public so that there is an awareness amongst the current excitement of change in the Kitimat area,” said Christiansen.
The exhibit contains acrylic on Canvas, Photographs and paintings based on Photographs. There are between twenty and twenty-two images in the exhibit.
“The exhibit is my works over the past three years and some are revisited like my underwater self-portrait picture. A lot of my works are about my recent travels and capturing the mood and how it felt to be there and bringing them back to their emotional state using photography and painting,” said Christiansen.
