STATEMENT FROM THE DISTRICT OF KITIMAT REGARDING JOINT REVIEW PANEL REPORT ON NORTHERN GATEWAY
KITIMAT – This afternoon the District of Kitimat issued the following statement in response to the release of the Joint Review Panel report and recommendations with respect to the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project:
Mayor and Council acknowledge the release of the Joint Review Panel report and its recommendations regarding the Northern Gateway project. It is our understanding that the federal cabinet now has 180 days to consider the findings of the JRP and make a final decision.
Presently, Kitimat Council has taken a neutral stance with respect to Northern Gateway. Council will take the necessary time to review the report in order to understand the content and reasons for the decision.
In line with a Council resolution from January 2012, the District of Kitimat will also undertake a survey of Kitimat residents to determine their opinions of the project now that the JRP has concluded its process. This will be conducted in early 2014.
