Town houses are proposed for Baxter Avenue. At the Regular Meeting of Council on Monday, December 16th, Council gave first and 2nd readings to a to a zoning amendment bylaw for 110 Baxter Avenue. A public hearing is scheduled for January 20th.
The proposal is to put 36 units of town houses on the site where the Baxter Apartment burned down several years ago. The plan which was put before Council was for five 3 story buildings
“I was pleased to see this application come forward. It will be interesting to see the comments back that we receive from the planning commission. It’s looking for apartment complexes and I think it would be welcome in the community,” said Councillor Corrine Scott.
Councillor Phil Germuth clarified that there was a 36 unit apartment on the site and now it is going to be a 36 unit strata title and the sewer is already in place. He was told he was correct. He asked if the Council could complete their strata policy.
Administration replied the strata policy was for previously occupied buildings.
Councillor Mario Feldhoff stated this was an exciting proposal. He said there were issues concerning parking. He explained some of the units would be available immediately while others would be available as rental properties.
Councillor Edwin Empinado wanted to hear more from the investor. He clarified there was a variance since one of the buildings would fall onto park land.
The applicant is planning to hold a public information meeting at the Golf Course on January 15th. The motion was called and carried.
