Corrected date of Concert
Kitimat City Council met to hear the requests from the citizens of Kitimat on Tuesday December 10th. The Kitimat Budget for 2014 was underway and different groups and organization which are funded by Council and were looking for funding for all kinds of amazing hopes and dreams for 2014.
Without further ado, there was a bit of ‘shameless promotion’ at the Council Meeting for a few upcoming events. On Saturday, December 14th, at 7:00 Pm, the School Band is performing Polar Express at the Mount Elizabeth Theatre with tickets costing $10 at the door. The Kitimat Snow Valley Nordic Ski Club will be having an open house on December 28th from 1:30 to 4:00.
Here are a few highlights from Tuesday’s meetings. For others, look at the longer article.
From Brenda Feldhoff’s Mount Elizabeth Theatre Presentation
Feldhoff asked for additional money so she could pay her Technician for better hours. They want to purchase a Scissor Lift for the Theater, replace four lights and work on getting a projector.
From Staff Sargent Phil Harrison’s RCMP Presentation
Harrison wants to try and get 2 new officers per year over the next five years. He also wants a General Investigative Position. He also requested 2 Colt CA Carbine Rifles and an electronic Finger Print Scanner. The reason for the scanner is to speed up fingerprinting of Chaperones.
From the Kitimat Art’s For Youth Presentation
Louise Avery and Nancy Jane Harness asked for an additional $5000 above what they asked for last year to meet the growing costs of buying instruments and putting on workshops, band camps and much more.
But there was so much more. The Kitimat Emergency plan is concerned about the fallout of another fire similar to the Baxter Apartment Fire so many years ago. The Kitimat Museum is talking about the potential for a new or upgraded building, not now but farther down the line…
And after all the buildup, the budget is not complete yet. The budget process will continue at future Council Meetings and into the New Year.
