NEWS RELEASE · 3rd December 2013
Kitimat Food Bank Society
The delivery date for Christmas Hampers is only a few days away with the need for applications to be in this Thursday, December 5th – please drop them off at the Salvation Army Thrift Store or to the Food Bank (through the mail slot on days it is closed). As mentioned in last week’s article, Gareen Ball will be hosting her annual Christmas Show, sponsored by Astral Media, on Saturday, December 7th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. lower level of City Centre Mall outside Sight & Sound. She will be assisted by guests from the community and we are hoping many of you will drop by to say hello and make a donation of non-perishable food, gifts or cash – we look forward to seeing you.
This past Saturday, November 30th, CFNR with Yulanda Leighton and William Wesley, as well as various Food Bank members, hosted their 7th annual Food for Christmas Hampers outside Super Valu for several hours (in the pouring rain) and collected 5 grocery carts of food, much of it donated by Super Valu management and staff along with $243.75 in cash. We thank CFNR for their ongoing support – the draw for the $100 gift certificates will be made later in December.
Cash donations received this week include V&R Levesque $100; Anonymous $35; B&H Adams $20; Anonymous $100; Doctors Gottschling & Stevenson $1000; J Peck $50; Anonymous $50; Dr. D. Carstens $150 and the KGH Medical Staff $200 for a total to date of $3209. Please remember donations can be dropped off under the Christmas Tree at Envision Financial Credit Union and Wing’s Travel will accept cash donations. Receipts will be issued for donations of $10 and over. Delivery date for the hampers is Saturday, December 14th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a responsible adult or teen must be home in order to sign for the hamper as it will not be left and can be picked up at the Food Bank the following Tuesday or Thursday. Late applications will be filled that week as well.
Snow Valley Ford called us this week and they are sponsoring “Fill the Focus” and are asking their customers and friends to drop donations off at their business which will then be brought in to help fill our hampers.
Thank you to those people/organizations who have called to stay they will help deliver hampers. Also thank you to Overwaitea and Super Valu for their ongoing donations of food throughout the year as well as to the various churches who continue to support the Food Bank on a regular basis. Thank you to the media – without you we could not get our message out and we appreciate your continued support.”
