Jane Stevenson was in Kitimat on Wednesday, October 16th to promote her book, A Trail of Two Telegraphs. Stevenson was raised in Kitimat but she now lives in Telkwa.

“It’s a collection of stories, some of them had been previously published in Northword Magazine. They’re historical stories from this area. They go from Prince George to Haida Gwaii and they go all over time. They go from 1866 all the way to 1956,” said Stevenson.

She presented to the crowd about her favourite little known person, place and event. Her favourite little known event was the Japanese Fire Balloons of World War 2. The balloons were filled with hydrogen gas and floated over the Pacific Ocean to drop bombs on North America. The bombs caused little destruction but caused some fear so they hired someone to find them and dispose of the bombs.

The stories come from people contacting her and letting her know about the strange history of the North. She stated if anyone has any more oddball history, they can contact her.
