Debbilynn Smith was in Kitimat to promote her two books on Thursday, October 10th at the Kitimat Public Library. Her books were Running From Cancer and Not Just One.

“Running from Cancer is a personal memoir about standing up to Cancer instead of running away from it. It’s [about] trying to prevent you having your cancer because everybody’s born with Cancer tickets. It’s like a Cancer Lottery, the more tickets you give yourself, the better the chance you are going to end up with Cancer,” said Smith.

She stated around 50% of the people who get Cancer have found out it could have been prevented. She is trying to get people to tighten their ‘anti-cancer belts a little more with the book. Smith told us she was angry when she got out of the Cancer Treatment process.

“I don’t want anyone else going through this, so this is my way of trying to help you,” said Smith.

Some of her tips include simply looking after you better. Things like reducing alcohol, maintaining a healthy body weight and Vitamin D will help. She stated the numbers are showing that people need to work a little harder. The book contains tips and even recipes to help lessen the Cancer Lottery.

She explained she was treated in Terrace and a lot of the hikes she did were in Terrace.

“My other book is called Not Just One. It’s about a single mom trying to learn to put down both feet and not just one with all the men in her life including her Ex-Husband who gets her into all kinds of trouble and her father and the other men in her life. A single mom with two kids and it’s based on two towns which sort of parallel Houston and Terrace,” said Smith.

She expressed there is a lot of things in there locals would find funny. The books are available at Misty River Books in Terrace.
