REPORTING · 10th October 2013
The Aluminum City Telethon is taking shape for 2013. The Committee has been meeting regularly and despite a few small hiccups, it will be ready for Sunday October 20th from 11 am to 9 pm.
“Our theme this year is Kitimat’s Got Talent. We’re going to be show casing 23 different acts and we’re going to see how much talent Kitimat really has,” said Wendy Kraft.
This year, the hosting duties are going to be split between two hosts, Pat Mouland and Sally Sousa who work as teachers in the community. They were contacted to be the hosts by the Committee. Mouland had done the hour long host for the last couple of years. They will be working with each other and with other special guest hosts throughout the show.
“We’ve got a good vibe going,” said Sousa. “We love to feed off of each other but we’ve got to give each other breaks.” Sousa suggested bringing up several high school students to host along with her.
The food venders and the car wash are also going on, and parents are being reminded to come along with their children for the Kids-zone. There is also some promise of other surprises as well.
The goal for this year’s Telethon is to raise more than last year’s total. The money raised at the Aluminium City Telethon goes back into the community through the Community Foundation into the non-profit organizations including the Child Development Centre, the Kitimat Marine Rescue Society, Special Olympics, the Hospice Society and many more.
“We want all of the community to come out and see the acts. Our closing act is Swamp Water, their lead singer is Arty Horianopoulos,” said Kraft.
Do not forget to come to Mount Elizabeth Theatre for another amazing Aluminium City Telethon and support the local not for profit groups.
