REPORTING · 1st October 2013
Walter McFarlane
The Annual Kitimat River Clean up took place on September 29th. Fifty-nine people forming twelve teams came out to clean up the river.

“Today, we’re having a Kitimat River Clean-up. This would be about our 16th year of doing this,” said Barb Hall. “This is an important event because it does two things. It cleans up the river and [raises] awareness of our beautiful river, our beautiful province and our beautiful area here in Kitimat.”

The various groups who were out cleaning found all kinds of discarded odds and ends. Among the oddities were a patio set lacking any fabrics, undergarments, an air mattress, a bow and arrows, an old fish cooler, a lawn mower, a BBQ, two toilet seats, a piece of a broken toy UFO, a bottle of nail polish and a Catheter Bag.

There were prizes donated by Bechtel, KMP and LNG Canada Shell. Hall thanked all the sponsors, the people who came out.
Good Job.....Well Done

I am confident this continuing effort is greatly appreciated by all residents and visitors alike.

Now if we can only get the District Mayor and Council to add their efforts to this camping/fishing issue, we just might have a "jewel" in the making.
