REPORTING · 26th August 2013
With the coming of the fall and the end of summer, it is once again time for the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre to shut down for maintenance. They wrapped up the closure of the pool on Thursday July 22nd with a pool party with special events for the kids. The highlight of the party was the ice-cream eating contest.
The kids received a mouthful of ice-cream at the top of the slide and had to finish it by the time they get down to the bottom. There were a variety of prizes including free passes and trinkets.
At 3:00 pm on Thursday July 22nd, the pool closed.
“Basically, this year [we’re] going to overhaul some of our mechanical systems, sort of like the 5000 km check on your car, you’ve got to go through some extra stuff. We’re also having some grouting redone on the pool which is a three to five year time frame as well because how the chlorine affects the tiling. Really, it’s something we have to do every three to five years and it’s time unfortunately,” said Shaun O’Neill.
There are few other projects for when the pool is closed. There will be new starting blocks installed which will help the Marlin Swim Club. Another project is the installation of a ladder into the lap pool to help people with mobility issues access the pool.
The pool will be closed until October 7th at 9:00 am. O’Neill told us if anyone has any questions concerning the shut down, they can direct their calls to Riverlodge at 632-8970. The fall guide comes out on August 30th and registration starts September 7th.
