REPORTING · 15th August 2013
Walter McFarlane
Quite the storm passed overhead on Monday, August 12th which put on quite the pyrotechnic display. However, observers at the Hirsch Creek Golf and Winter Club were treated to an even more spectacular show as lightning struck a tree outside the Driving range.

The Tree was struck 8 feet from the top at around 8:30. According to Tonie Readman who saw the strike, the hit shook the building.

“We were having supper here and we were watching the lightning outside the window because it was lighting up the sky, it was so bright. It must have been about 8:30, that one hit the tree and shook the whole windows and everything. The whole golf course just lit right up,” said Readman. “It was quite the show.”

They came out and saw either smoke or steam rising from the shattered tree and immediately called the Fire Department. However, there was no fire, charring or burn marks on the fallen tree.
